Main Street Now 2019

In 2019 at the National Main Street Conference in Seattle, Upstairs Downtown took a special look at the impact of the sharing economy on upper floor development. Using the case study of Galena, Illinois, Mike and Dan compared and contrasted three different forms of short-term rentals: second vacation homes, traditional B&B’s and Airbnb units.

Developing Airbnb units in your downtown may be a way to jumpstart your new downtown housing market given that income from such units often exceeds that from monthly rentals.
